In the steps toward implementing the National Strategy of Intellectual Property and reaching its goals, the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has signed Law No. 163 of Year 2023 on August 6th, 2023, issued for the establishment of the Egyptian Apparatus of Intellectual Property with its regulatory law and procedures. The Egyptian Apparatus of Intellectual Property has many responsibilities, including but are not limited to:
• Acting as a single governing entity that handles intellectual property (IP) matters, from registration up to granting IP rights;
• Creating databases and integrated information about intellectual property rights (IPRs) without prejudice to the rules related to Data Privacy and Secrecy;
• Acting as the expert house in matters related to IP enforcement;
• Facilitating the coordination between the ministries and the concerned entities;
• Providing IP awareness and encouraging researchers, inventors, Start-Ups, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to register their research outputs to optimize their economic utilization and exploitation;
• Cooperating and coordinating with the regional and international organizations and entities that are concerned with intellectual property.
These responsibilities facilitate the intellectual property registration procedures, protection, and enforcement and fixes issues that may arise related to intellectual property disputes and/or enforcement in a manner that serves the interests of Egypt and the applicant of intellectual property.
