The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) has officially designated the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) as both an International Searching Authority (ISA) and an International Preliminary Examining Authority (IPEA) under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).
With this new designation now in effect, applicants filing PCT applications through SAIP can choose the USPTO to carry out international search and preliminary examination reports — a critical step toward securing global patent protection.
This move marks a notable step in strengthening IP cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the United States, while also expanding the options available to inventors and businesses seeking international patent protection.
The USPTO joins a growing list of recognized ISAs and IPEAs by SAIP, which includes:
• Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO)
• European Patent Office (EPO)
• Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS)
• Egyptian Patent Office
• Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property (ROSPATENT)
• Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO)
